At this point I figure either I have something miss configured or there is a bug in elasticsearch that I somehow managed to find. The other VMs being a Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and WinServer 2012. My original cluster used Ubuntu Server 16.04 LTS, but when I started to experience problems I decided I would rule out the OS being the problem, since I am successfully running two other VMs on this host machine that have run for a couple of years now. I haven't noticed anything particular in the log files for Elasticsearch that would lead me to a solution and I haven't found anything useful on Google. Eventually, a second VM will freeze if I wait after the first freezes. I haven't been able to successfully troubleshoot why after 15-30 minutes one of my three VMs freezes and requires a restart.
